Lomita Invites Public to Tour Water Infrastructure

Interest Lists Forming Now for September Tours

CITY OF LOMITA, CA, August 28, 2019 — The City of Lomita has announced a water infrastructure tour series that will start in September with one hour evening and weekend tours of the Cypress Water Production Facility. The tours will focus on a range of common water questions from the public and provide a forum in which to talk with water service professionals about the City’s water supply and upcoming projects.

“Every resident deserves clean and safe water, and the City is dedicated to delivering on the commitment. We believe it is important that residents see our infrastructure for themselves and understand what it takes to reliably supply safe and sustainable water to our community,” said Mayor Henry Sanchez Jr. “Water is a precious resource – without it we would not exist as a community, and it is important that our residents have clarity about our water supply and longer term projects.”

The City of Lomita has engaged in extensive community outreach and transparency efforts with regard to our water system. This includes the launching of the Lomitawater.com website in 2016 where all of the City’s water quality and reliability data is posted for residents to review. Residents can also report concerns directly to our Water division staff through the website.

Recently, residents have had questions about the water supply in the City due to both the detection of Benzene at the Cypress Water Production Facility and the announcement of a pollution plume investigation that originates out of the City of Torrance. The City is opening up the facility to discuss these important issues and explain how the City’s infrastructure and water supply sources can be leveraged to respond to a dynamic environment.

To schedule a tour, residents should visit Lomitawater.com and click on the Water Tours link. By submitting a form, you will be placed on the interest list and contacted when a final schedule for the tours has been determined. Members of the public may also call the City of Lomita, Public Works Department at (310) 325-7110 ext. 155. Any member of the public is welcome to join in on the tour. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
