State/Federal Regulations

Lomita Water Tower with LogoMultiple government agencies regulate and oversee the activities of the City of Lomita Water Division, as well as the quality of the water we deliver to ratepayers. These agencies include:

  • The Federal Government – Lomita’s water supply must adhere to federal water quality standards. These standards are established at the Federal level of our government, but are enforced by state regulating authorities.
  • The State of California – Monitors and enforces the Federal water quality standards, and provides a process to oversee the quality of water provided by the City.
  • The State Water Resources Control Board, a board within the California Environmental Protection Agency, has a Division of Drinking Water. That Division: regulates public water systems; oversees water recycling projects; permits water treatment devices; supports and promotes water system security; and performs a number of other functions.
